December 5, 2012 – Alpha Safe and Vault Inc. is pleased to post the latest announcement from the Information Security Oversight Office (ISOO) regarding Standards for Security Equipment. The announcement made October 12, 2012 gives guidance to the procurement of GSA Approved Security Containers, and the elimination of Non-GSA Approved Security Containers.
There has been some confusion regarding the storage of classified information in reconditioned, refurbished, or remanufactured security containers. According to 32 CFR 2001.42, whenever new secure storage equipment is purchased it must comply with the specifications established by the GSA.
According to the ISOO notice, “classified information may not be stored in security containers that have been reconditioned, refurbished, or remanufactured and obtained outside of the authorized GSA procurement processes.” In addition, as of October 1, 2012, “classified national security information cannot be stored in Non-GSA approved security containers”.
Alpha Safe and Vault manufactures GSA Approved Class 6 Security Containers in accordance with Federal Specifications and meets the filing and storage criteria under 32 CFR. Customers requiring cabinets to meet these strict criteria and abide by the new ISOO directive are encouraged to call Alpha Safe and Vault to learn how they can purchase GSA Approved containers.
